Cucurbits: A big step ahead in resistance to mildew in cucumber - Cucurbitáceas: Un gran paso adelante en resistencia a oidio en pepino

Enza Zaden is about to release a new cucumber variety on the market with: E23L.2246. This new variety has a better resistance to the cucumber mosaic virus and is mildew resistant. This cucumber is a summer variety of traditional cultivation. In autumn of 2014, some 30 hectares were cultivated in the Netherlands and England. "An acreage that is likely to expand next year," predicts Paul van Dijck of Enza Zaden.

At AC Hartman in Sexbierum, 10 hectares of the variety was grown in 2014. Manager Jan van der Zee about his cultivation experiences: "The variety is a little slow on the uptake, but does remarkably well in the autumn, despite mildew tolerance and fading light. It is hardly susceptible to Pythium and Botrytis and produces good quality fruit. Production has been good. Especially considering the virus pressure we had in the summer."
